Rio De Janeiro - Brazil's worst oil spill in 25 years was out of control and contaminating the biggest river in southern Parana state, officials said yesterday.

Four million litres of crude oil escaped from a ruptured pipeline belonging to state oil company Petronas late on Sunday, officials of the state environmental agency said. The massive slick followed the course of a tributary into the main flow of the scenic Iguazu River, they added. The agency described the spill as the biggest in Brazil in 25 years.
