A US judge has ordered BP chief executive officer John Browne to give a deposition in a lawsuit arising from a 2005 refinery explosion.

Texas state District Judge Susan Criss has ruled that Browne should be questioned under oath in a suit brought by survivors of a husband and wife killed in the accident. It is slated to go to trial November 8.

BP said it would appeal the order, which did not set a schedule for Mr Browne's testimony about the Texas City refinery blast that killed 15 and injured dozens.
