London - Displaying the blend of defiance and aggression that made him a batting legend, the British cricketer Geoffrey Boycott yesterday fiercely denied beating his former lover in a luxury hotel in the south of France.

Boycott, who on Tuesday was given a three-month suspended sentence by a French court for the assault, accused Ms Margaret Moore (45) of trying to make money out of the allegations and ruin his reputation.
