A 12-year-old boy was killed while playing on a building site in Cashel, Co Tipperary, on Monday night. Donal McCarthy, of Spafield Crescent, Cashel, was playing with a group of friends on an unguarded building site shortly after 10 p.m.
It is believed that he climbed into a large concrete pipe which was rolled down an incline, hit an obstacle and shattered. The child was removed to nearby Our Lady's Hospital but was dead on arrival.
