A six-year-old boy died yesterday after trying to climb on to a lorry in Co Clare. He was named locally last night as Jack Myers, of Finian's Park, Shannon.

The boy was leaving St Aidan's primary school in Shannon, Co Clare, just after 2 p.m. when an oil lorry, which had just made a delivery, was leaving the yard at the same time. The boy tried to grab the lorry's ladder but fell, hitting his head. A post mortem examination showed he died from head injuries. The school's principal is the county's hurling manager, Mr Ger Loughnane.
