A 12-year-old boy has been airlifted from Carrauntoohil mountain in Co Kerry after getting into difficulties while climbing with his family.

Kerry Mountain Rescue answered an emergency call before lunchtime yesterday after the boy hurt his knee about halfway up the peak. The boy had been holidaying in Killarney.

He was transferred from Carrauntoohil to Kerry General Hospital.
