A 13-year-old schoolboy was accused yesterday of mugging a Belfast pensioner. Mrs Florence Moore (93) is recovering in hospital after being injured when her handbag was snatched near her home at Annesley Street, off the Crumlin Road. The defendant appeared at the Juvenile Court on charges of causing her grievous bodily harm and stealing her handbag and contents valued £30. A detective told the court that when the boy was charged, he replied: "I'm sorry."

The Resident Magistrate, Mr Des Perry, said it was an exceptionally grave matter and refused bail. He remanded the boy in custody until October 19th.
