A nine-year-old boy has been killed in a road collision in Co Leitrim.

A nine-year-old boy has been killed in a road collision in Co Leitrim.

The boy was a passenger in a car when it collided with a truck on the N16 between Manorhamilton and Glenfarne at 9.15am.

The female driver of the car was taken to Sligo General Hospital for treatment but her injuries were not said to be life-threatening.

The male driver of the lorry was not injured in the crash.

The section of the N16 road has been closed for a technical examination, a Garda spokeswoman said. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Manorhamilton Garda Station.
