A three-year-old boy has died following an incident at Drogheda Port in Co Louth this morning.

A three-year-old boy has died following an incident at Drogheda Port in Co Louth this morning.

It is understood the boy was with his father who worked at the docks when he wandered off and was crushed by a falling log at about 11.45am.

The boy was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda where he died of his injuries.

A Garda spokesman described the incident as “a tragic and freak accident”.

Gardaí, Drogheda Port Company and the Health and Safety Authority are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
