London - A 12-year-old boy yesterday became one of Britain's youngest convicted rapists. The schoolboy held his head in his hands and sobbed as a jury at Leeds Crown Court found him guilty of raping a five-year-old girl when she went out to play with him and her 12-year-old uncle.
The uncle, who is now 13, has admitted indecent assault.
Both boys, who are from Leeds and cannot be named for legal reasons, have been released on bail. They will be sentenced after reports have been prepared. The conviction of the 12-year-old makes him one of the youngest people to be found guilty of rape.
