Gardaí in Drogheda are treating the shooting of an 11-year-old boy in the head yesterday as accidental. The boy was taken to hospital by ambulance after the incident which happened in the garden of a house in the Mount St Oliver area in the town at about 6.15pm.

The area was sealed off and preserved by gardaí for technical examination. It is understood the boy was struck by a pellet from a point 22 air rifle. He was last night described as being in a serious but stable condition.
