The trial of a bouncer accused of falsely claiming that he was attacked by journalist Eamon Dunphy has been sent forward to Dublin Circuit Court.

Mr David Heatly, Devinish Road, Crumlin, Dublin 12, is facing charges of knowingly making a false report to gardaí last April intending to show an offence had been committed.

He denies the charges.

Mr Heatly said in his statement to gardaí at Harcourt Terrace Garda Station he had been struck in the face by the broadcaster during an altercation outside Cat's nightclub in Lower Leeson Street.

Judge John O'Neill refused jurisdiction in the District Court on the grounds of  the seriousness of the charges, and adjourned the case until February  25th to allow for the preparation of the Book of Evidence.
