The first time I tasted Chateau PiqueSegue, Montravel, 1996 (outlets above, usually £6.99), six months ago, I was incredulous. How could such a stunner have escaped notice for so long? The second time, quite recently, disbelief struck again.

How can they do it at this price? A blend of Semillon, Sauvignon and Muscadelle, it's a perfect wine for a summer's day - fragrantly fruity, refreshingly zesty at first, then settling into a creamy finish. Felicitations!
