Dublin's O'Connell Street was closed for a time after a suspicious package was found on a bus.

The package was noticed by the driver of an airport shuttle bus and reported to the Garda Station on Upper O'Connell Street.

Gardaí from Store Street Station were called to close off the street and army bomb disposal experts examined the package.

An army spokesman said no explosives were found and a controlled explosion was not necessary.

Traffic in both directions on O'Connell Street was stopped, as well as on some side streets. Pedestrians were stopped from passing the GPO on one side and the Savoy cinema on the other.

The road was reopened at about 1pm.
