Paintings of Irish bogs will go on display in a New York City art gallery today.

A group of 27 Co Kerry artists will be showcasing the peat landscapes at the Magnan Projects venue on Tenth Avenue.

Aosdana member Pauline Bewick will be among those taking part in the two-day exhibition: 'A Different Land; Irish Bogland Interpretations'.

The event is being run in conjunction with the Sean McCarthy Festival in Co Kerry which features annual displays of bog landscapes.

The paintings will be later exhibited in O'Neill's Pub and Restaurant on Third Avenue for several weeks.

Fine Gael Kerry North TD Jimmy Deenihan will be travelling with the artists. "Bogs are a unique part of our heritage and they should be promoted better as a tourist attraction," he said.

The Sean McCarthy Festival which takes place in Finuge near Listowel is named after the noted Co Kerry songwriter who penned Red-Haired Mary and Highland Paddy.
