Monrovia - Police are investigating the death of a man believed to have been beaten and tortured by bodyguards of the Liberian Deputy Transport Minister, Mr Melvin Sogbande.

Liberia's two daily newspapers, quoting the mother of the deceased, alleged yesterday that 10 heavily armed men stormed his home at 3 a.m. on Sunday, arresting him on suspicion of stealing a satellite dish belonging to Mr Sogbande. They then tortured him, including burning with melted plastic sheets, inflicting fatal injuries.
