A body has been recovered following an overnight fire at a thatched cottage in Co Laois.
The body of Jim Hyland (70), who lived alone, was discovered this afternoon in the single-storey house at The Heath, around six kilometres from Portlaoise.
It is thought the fire broke out at around 2.10am.
One unit of the local fire brigade attended the scene and put out the blaze
Mr Hyland's body was removed to Portlaoise General Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Gardaí are not treating the fire as suspicious.
