The Garda has confirmed that the body of teenager David White has been recovered from the Grand Canal in Dublin.

The 18-year-old's body was taken from the Canal yesterday between the 10th and 11th lock. A post mortem examination, which was carried out yesterday, confirmed that he had died from drowning.

Gardaí had drafted in extra reinforcements for the fourth day of the search for the teenager. The Garda Air Support Unit and Garda Technical Bureau sniffer dogs assisted the team of five divers to examine the scene in the Clondalkin area.

David from Carrigmore Avenue, Citywest in Dublin had been missing since last Sunday morning when he and a friend, Shane Coughlan, left a house party at 4.30am to buy cigarettes and phone credit at a nearby Esso filling station.

Garda divers later recovered the body of Mr Coughlan, 18, from the Grand Canal last Wednesday. A post mortem established that he died from drowning.
