Boat find sparks Lough Derg search

Rescue teams have resumed a search of Lough Derg in Co Tipperary following the discovery of an upturned speedboat yesterday.

Rescue teams have resumed a search of Lough Derg in Co Tipperary following the discovery of an upturned speedboat yesterday.

The 20-foot vessel, which had suffered extensive damage, was found close to the shore near Garrykennedy at 9.30pm last night.

The local Killaloe Coast Guard unit and the Irish Coast Guard Search and Rescue Helicopter are taking part in the search.

Volunteers teams are also searching the shoreline.

The speedboat was taken to Garrykennedy and is being investigated by Garda specialists.

Lifeboat operations manager Charles Stanley Smith said he was extremely pleased with the level of co-operation by all of the emergency services on the lake as well as offers of help from the public.
