The Mid Western Health Board has reported a baby boom at the Regional Maternity Hospital in Limerick

The Mid Western Health Board has reported a baby boom at the Regional Maternity Hospital in Limerick. The total number of births rose by 15 per cent last year.

A total of 3,734 babies were born at the hospital in 1996, and the perinatal mortality rate - that is, deaths in and around the time of birth - was the lowest ever at 7 per 1,000.
