The Bishop of Derry and Raphoe, Dr James Mehaffey, said yesterday the prospect of elections in May and political talks in June had done little to restore hope and confidence to the Northern community.

In an Easter Sunday address in St Columb's Cathedral, Derry, Mr Mehaffey said confidence had been swept away by the IRA bombing in London. Now, hope and confidence were in short supply in the community.

At this time, there was an urgent need to recapture a strong sense of hope if the future was to be faced with confidence and solutions found to problems.
