Suicide rates among young males have increased by almost 300 per cent since 1980, the conference of the Psychological Society of Ireland in Waterford was told yesterday. In 1980, 19 young men in the 19-24 age group committed suicide. By 1994, this had risen to 55. The female suicide rate remained stable during this time.
