ROME - The public prosecutor, Mr Gherardo Colombo, yesterday alleged that the media tycoon, Mr Silvio Berlusconi, had authorised the payment of $250,000 worth of bribes to tax inspectors on behalf of four companies controlled by his Fininvest Group, Paddy Agnew reports.

Mr Colombo was presenting his case against Mr Berlusconi at the third session of a Milan trial where the tycoon, along with nine others including his brother Paolo, faces charges of corruption.
