British soldiers at a west Belfast army base prevented a man from setting himself alight after he doused himself with petrol. Later he came back and thanked them with chocolates. The incident happened at the Fort Whiterock base on Monday night when the man in his late 20s approached the entrance to the base, covered in petrol. It is understood the man, who was staying in Turf Lodge, was distressed following recent family bereavements.
