Political and church representatives yesterday attended a memorial service in Belfast for the late US Commerce Secretary, Ron Brown, and his deputy, Charles Meissner, who were killed in a plane crash earlier this month.

The service of thanksgiving for the two politicians was held in St George's Church of Ireland church in High Street, Belfast.

A spokesman for the US Consul in Belfast said that it was a very fitting tribute to Mr Brown and Mr Meissner that the service attracted such a cross-section of senior politicians and church representatives.
