Nothing has been found in a search for a mortar device in West Belfast which led to 100 houses being evacuated.

Dissident republicans claimed to have fired the explosive at a police patrol on the Glen Road last Friday.

A PSNI spokeswoman said: “The search operation in the Glen Road area of West Belfast following a gun attack on police and a reported mortar attack is now over and nothing untoward has been found.

“There is no trace of any device or explosion.”

Residents have been allowed to return to their homes, business owners to their properties and the road has re-opened to traffic.
