An 18-year-old man from the Shankill Road, Belfast, was charged yesterday with murdering an elderly man who was found beaten to death in the city on Saturday morning. He will appear before Belfast Magistrates' Court today.

Mr William Thompson (64), from Upper Glenfarne Street, in the Shankill area, was found with serious head injuries. The RUC said his 92-year-old bedridden mother was in the house at the time of the attack. It was not sectarian.
