A south Belfast house was damaged today when a makeshift bomb exploded after being stuffed through the letter box.

The PSNI described the device as "crude", but said it caused minor damage.

Three people in the house on the Donegall Road escaped injury in the explosion.

An army bomb disposal team tasked to the scene took a number of items away for further examination.

The PSNI said they were trying to establish a motive for the attack.
