Belfast attack leaves woman critically injured

A 23-year-old woman is in a critical condition today after a serious assault in west Belfast.

A 23-year-old woman is in a critical condition today after a serious assault in west Belfast.

Police said the incident happened in a lay-by on the Andersonstown Road at around 1.30am.

A 25-year-old woman has been arrested and is helping police with their inquiries.

A number of people were said to be in the area at the time of the assault and police are particularly keen to speak to a taxi driver who may have witnessed the incident.

The injured woman is described as critical but stable in hospital.
