London - Church of England vicars were advised yesterday to consider self-defence lessons and installing video cameras and panic buttons at their rectories to fend off an increase in attacks. A Church of England report on security recommended that clergy take better precautions to protect themselves.

Publication of the report followed an airgun attack on a vicar in Lincoln on Monday night.
