A sludge liked substance washed up in the Dalkey and Sandycove areas of south Dublin over the past two days was probably not sewage, according to Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown County Council.

The substance, which was spread thickly at Dalkey's Bulloch Harbour yesterday, has been sent for analysis. A council spokesman said the indications were the material was not "sewage derived".
