Tbilisi - Mr Eduard Shevardnadze was sworn in yesterday for a second term as elected president of the Caucasian republic of Georgia, and vowed to fight government corruption.

Three weeks ago Mr Shevardnadze (72) won an election which international observers said had been marred by fraud and irregularities. His main rival refused to accept the result.
