The Government has nominated Judge Donal Barrington for appointment to the Supreme Court, writes Joe Carroll, Parliamentary Correspondent. As already reported in The Irish Times, he will fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Mr Justice Seamus Egan.

Judge Barrington, who was appointed to the European Court of First Instance in Luxembourg in 1989, will be formally appointed by President Robinson next Friday. He will be replaced in the European Court of First Instance by Mr John Cooke SC.
