A man who held up bank staff with a knife and stole almost £8,000 was caught by gardai after a bank customer gave chase and saw him boarding a bus, Cork Circuit Criminal Court heard yesterday.

Rory Ross (22), of Glandore Park, Knocknaheeny, Cork city, was jailed for seven years by Judge A.G. Murphy for the armed robbery of £7,925 from AIB Bank, Bridge Street, Cork, on January 6th last. the sentence will be reviewed after two-and-a-half years.
