Bank of Ireland has become the latest mortgage lender to increase its standard variable interest rate following the European Central Bank's decision to increase its base rate earlier this month.

The bank has raised its standard variable rate by 0.24 per cent, taking its rate to 3.99 per cent.

The banks investment variable rate has gone up by the same amount.

Bank of Ireland also passed on the rate increase to savers, with the SSIA deposit rate up a quarter of a point to 2.25 per cent.
