St Louis - The US adventurer, Mr Steve Fossett, drifted past South Africa yesterday, becoming the first person to cross the South Atlantic in a balloon as his attempt to circle the globe continued on course.
At 1.48 p.m. EDT (6.48 p.m. Irish time) Mr Fossett's Solo Spirit balloon passed 241 km south of Cape Town, travelling about 160 kph, heading for the Indian Ocean.
