A Waterford man has been remanded in custody until December 19th by the Central Criminal Court for sentence on incest offences committed against his daughter over a 10-year period.

The 61-year-old defendant pleaded guilty to five charges of having unlawful carnal knowledge of his daughter on unknown dates from June 1975, when she was aged 11-12, to December 1985. Originally he faced a total of 46 charges.

Mr Patrick Gageby SC, defending, requested probation and psychiatric reports on the defendant. Mr Maurice Gaffney SC, prosecuting, said the normal practice was that bail was terminated once the defendant pleaded guilty.

Remanding the man in custody, Mr Justice Morris also requested the preparation of a victim impact report on the injured party.
