The master of the Tia charged with conspiracy to import cocaine into the State yesterday asked to be released on bail because gardai had found no drugs on board the vessel.

Mr Sigurdur Arngrimmson (65), from Malmo, Sweden, was remanded in custody to Clonakilty court for a week. Supt John Flynn told Skibbereen District Court he did not believe Mr Arngrimmson would turn up for a trial if he was released. He said after four days of intensive searching, no drugs were found on board the 150-ft coaster.
