British Airways has announced it is increasing its long-haul fuel surcharge from May 2nd in reaction to rising oil prices.

British Airways has announced it is increasing its long-haul fuel surcharge from May 2nd in reaction to rising oil prices.

The surcharge on long-haul flights of less than than nine hours will rise 10 per cent to £33 sterling per flight (£66 return), the company said. The charge for fights longer than nine hours increases from £35 per flight to £38 (£76 return).

The short-haul fuel surcharge is unchanged at £8 per sector, it said.

BA said the cost of fuel had risen significantly in recent weeks and remained "extremely volatile".

The surcharges will increase by similar levels in markets outside the United Kingdom, BA added.
