EU commissioner Stavros Dimas today unveiled Ireland's first automated Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) processing plant.

TechRec Ireland Limited will employ up to 50 people at its €10 million plant at Park West in Dublin.

The new plant will recycle up to 28,000 tons of WEEE annually for export as reusable materials for use in manufacturing.

Currently, almost three-quarters of Irish municipal waste, including electrical and electronic equipment that contain harmful substances, ends up in landfill sites.
