The Australian competition watchdog today raised concerns over the proposed iron ore joint venture between BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said in a statement that it would examine whether the JV can control iron ore supply or whether it can co-ordinate supplies with Vale, the world's top producer of iron ore.

The regulator is expected to come out with its findings on April 28th. The two firms have said they hope to finalise the joint venture this year.
