Cricket: Australia defeated South Africa by 57 runs in a limited-overs one-day match at the Sydney Cricket Ground today.
Australia amassed a daunting total of 344 for six from their 50 overs with Adam Gilchrist (88), Damien Martyn (79) and Ricky Ponting (72) all making half-centuries.
South Africa made 287-6 in reply.
Mark Boucher top-scored with 76 and six of the other seven batsmen made at least 25 but Australia were always in control of the match.
Australia are already assured of a place in the best-of-three finals in the triangular competition. South Africa play Sri Lanka in Hobart on Tuesday to decide the other spot.
