CANBERRA - The Australian government's blitz on its budget deficit has upset the country's usually placid public servants, who protested against staff cuts with a 13 minute "Black Friday" strike yesterday.

The public servants were protesting against their falling numbers and the conservative government's decision to water down employment conditions.
