London - A British parliamentary committee yesterday urged tighter financial control on the royal family's network of "grace and favour" apartments in palaces largely funded by the taxpayer.

They said the National Audit Office (NAO) should be given direct access to the accounts and records of Queen Elizabeth's royal household where money voted by parliament was spent.
