Members of the Association of Secondary Teachers Ireland (ASTI) have voted by 63 per cent to 37 per cent to accept a revised retirement and promotion package under the Programme for Competitiveness and Work.

The ASTI general secretary, Mr Charlie Lennon, welcomed the deal's opportunities for early retirement, enhanced promotional possibilities and the resolution of a long-standing qualifications claim for specialist teachers.
