A garda was struck on the head by a bottle when he confronted 50 people drinking in the Phoenix Park on St Patrick's Day, a court heard. Mr Mark Daly (20), of Gallanstown Grove, Ballyfermot, is accused of assaulting Garda Martin Cunney and breach of public order near the Wellington Monument that afternoon.

Garda Donny Tarrant said Mr Daly was alleged to have thrown the bottle which struck the garda, who had been called by park rangers because of a disturbance being caused by the large group. Judge Michael Patwell remanded the defendant on bail to April 8th.
