NNDS retransmission equipment in Co Donegal has been destroyed by fire in what Cable Management Ireland Ltd described as a "violent development" in a campaign being conducted by illegal deflector operators.

Gardai said the attack on the site near Glenties happened at around 11 a.m. yesterday. A large container had been damaged by fire and a substantial amount of property burned.

The company said an attempt had been made to force the door of the steel unit, which had been pushed off its supports, indicating that a number of people were involved.

The locks at the site entrance had been sealed with glue to prevent access later by keyholders.

A statement said: "The company is shocked at this violent development in the campaign which has been conducted against the company by illegal deflector operators in Donegal county".

Company representatives will today visit the site to assist Garda forensic investigations and have called on people in the Glenties area to dissociate themselves from such violence.
