RUC detectives investigating last month's murder of GAA club chairman Mr Sean Brown at Bellaghy, Co Derry, yesterday made a number of arrests.

Mr Brown, a father of six, was abducted from outside the Wolfe Tone GAA club at Bellaghy on the night of May 13th. His body was found hours later near Randalstown, Co Antrim, beside a burnt-out car which the police believe was used as a getaway vehicle by his killers.

No organisation admitted responsibility for the murder, but detectives said they believe it was carried out by loyalist gunmen.

An RUC spokesman would not say where the arrests took place.
