A BENCH warrant was issued yesterday for the arrest of a Tipperary man who failed to appear at Galway District Court to face charges of burglary and robbery of an elderly man living in Connemara.

Mr Patrick O'Connor (31) of Kilgainey, Clonmel, Co Tipperary, had been charged at a special sitting of the court on, Friday in relation to the burglary and robbery of Mr Thomas Molloy (89) of Recess.

At Friday's hearing, the court was told that the defendant had been arrested that day in Clifden, Co Galway. He was granted bail on his own surety of £1,000 and an independent surety of £3,000, subject to reporting daily to Clonmel Garda station, to appear at the Galway court yesterday. After his non appearance, Judge Garavan ordered that a bench warrant be issued for his arrest.
