An Army bomb disposal team today made safe a number of old munitions in Dublin.

The team was sent to deal with a quantity of grenades and artillery shells at an address at Strandville Avenue, North Strand, in response to a request from gardaí.

The munitions were found during renovations of the premises. They were badly corroded and dated back many years, possibly to the War of Independence.

The Army arrived on scene at 11.45am, removed the munitions for destruction and declared the scene safe at 3.15pm.
